Pieter Egriega

Biography

I was many things before I had a stroke, but that’s not relevant. What is relevant is that I made the transition, through having a stroke, to what I am now.

I couldn’t just lie there in hospital. A friend told me about 100 word short stories or ‘Drabbles’. I started writing, typing with my left hand, and eventually wrote 100 drabbles that became this drabble diary of a stroke survivor.

I died 8 days after my stroke whilst on the loo. Thanks to the quick thinking of the hospital staff, I was revived. My resuscitation was mostly applauded by people to whom I owed money….as well as by one or two lovely people, for whose beatification, we’re still waiting.

Each of my Drabbles is a picture of life inside the mind of a stroke survivor, but they’re not just a bundle of laughs… some are angry too.

But we all fight on, don’t we?… Whether we’ve had a stroke or a lucky life. We all fight on….
