Smashwords Interview

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Savannah, Tennessee. It is approximately 100 miles east of Memphis, Tennessee. When I was a child, it was a small town and didn't have much to do, so I read lots of books and wrote poems to occupy my time. My mother was a huge fan of Harlequin romances and that was a huge influence on me as well. I watched a lot of television shows, movies, and listened to music and as a result, I fell in love with the arts and the idea of being an entertainer some day.
When did you first start writing?
I wrote my first piece as a child around the age of seven. It was about Santa Claus, and was actually my very first piece ever published! It was published in the local newspaper. It was exciting to have my little story in the paper!

Smashwords book reviews by Lisa Vandiver

  • Caught by the Tide on March 17, 2011

A very fun and interesting read. I enjoyed it quiet a bit. I am definitely now a fan and look forward to reading more books from this author.
  • The Unsuspecting Mage: The Morcyth Saga Book One on March 30, 2011

I found this book to be both interesting and entertaining. I love this kind of mystic story and fell right into it, and enjoyed it very much. Mr. Pratt has a great talent at story telling and any minor errors are easily overlooked. I found myself being drawn into the story and anxiously awaiting to see what next terror or triumph was going to unfold for the main character James. I am looking forward to continuing in the series. I will continue to be a reader of Brian Pratt's adventures.
  • Smashwords Style Guide on April 16, 2011

I have read this book to help me meet the requirements for submission into smashword's premium catalog and it really was my salvation in meeting the requirements. Mark Coker is correct, if you will follow this guide word by word, line by line, you can pass the requirements for the catalog. I will use this guide over and over with each book that I attempt to submit, it is that important! Thanks Mark!
  • Boob Tube (A Soap Opera Novel) on May 01, 2011

The Boob Tube was a funny, entertaining, and very enjoyable read. It was quiet interesting to see how the 'stars' of the soap show were in reality just like common people in their real lives. They dealt with real emotions such as fear of being unloved or becoming unpopular with their fans, which in reality is sad. The authors did an excellent job in their presentation of perhaps real situations that go on behind the cameras.
  • The Princess & the Penis on May 01, 2011

It was funny, kind of silly, but captivating! I found myself anxious to find out more about the penis.
  • Message to my Children vol.II Hear the Message on June 25, 2011

This is an interesting novel even if you do not read the Bible. I found it to be thought provoking although I'm not a Bible Scholar. The possibilities that the story suggests that could occur during the end of the world are very capable of occurring in reality. I recommend this book to any Bible scholar who wants to examine their teachings or hear another person's point of view on the subject. I recommend this book to anyone who just wants to read an interesting book to engage your senses. I hope to see more from this author in the future.
  • Blindfold on July 01, 2011

This short read is for anyone who wants to experience a sensual read that may be enjoyed alone, or with a lover. The reading experience indulges the senses in the most intimate of ways.
  • Fires of Prophecy: The Morcyth Saga Book Two on July 14, 2011
    (no rating)
This was another good book in Mr.Pratt's series. I enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed it's predecessor, perhaps even a bit better. I'm looking forward to finishing the remainder of the series.
  • Zits'n'Bits on Aug. 27, 2011

I enjoyed reading this book to my daughter as much as she enjoyed having me read it to her. We laughed, she gasped at some of the 'scary' parts. I recommend this book to any mommy out there who is looking for an entertaining and different kind of read for your child. This is definitely a fantastic read for children. Shaun Allan should definitely write more children's books.
  • The Perfect Solution-A Suspense of Choices on Aug. 27, 2011

This was an intense read. I found my heart beating from chapter one to the ending chapter. I recommend this book for parents to read. It was a quiet a startling book about how badly things can go wrong if you or the caregivers of children aren't alert about safety issues concerning children. I was appalled at the mistakes that were made by the school staff, and asked,"Could this really happen?" And the answer is yes. Ey Wade is a talented author and I definitely will be reading more of her work and expecting more good works from her.
  • Immortal Obsession on Feb. 16, 2012

I was captivated by Christian and Amanda's story from the beginning. I absolutely loved Christian, and look forward to reading more of his story.I don't like Christian's friend, Michel, but am interested in watching his story unfold, and who knows, I might change my suspicious mind of him, and like him after all in the series to come. This story had its scary moments, but so much more was involved than scary, there was the unique blend of romance and love, and what one does for love. I liked the storyline that the author created with this story, it showed the human side of the vampire, yet, stayed true with the old legends of the vampires, that I like so much. This was the best vampire novel I've read in a long time, and can't wait to read more of this series, and to see what happens to Amanda, Christian, and Michel. This was a very well written story with twists that surprised me, held my interest to the very end.
  • Fires of Prophecy: The Morcyth Saga Book Two on June 04, 2012

This book developed at a much slower pace than the first, however I still enjoyed it. Of course it left me anxious to read the remainder of the series. I liked that the author brought in more characters to make the story more lively but disappointed that the story sort of drifted from James's main quest, and was led on a rabbit trail to rescue a friend. Mr. Pratt is undoubtedly a talented author and I'm looking forward to finishing the story of James, the main character who is easy to like.
  • Wilderness Heart on July 17, 2012

I enjoyed Lyn's and Nic's story very much from beginning to end. I immediately fell in love with Nic, even though he was harsh to Lyn without due cause at their first meeting. I immediately liked Lyn as well and completely understood why she had the type of attitude with the men on this hunting trip that she had. I think that the author did a very good job in creating a like/dislike feeling for both characters. One moment, I liked Nic more than Lyn, but then as the story continued, I'd find myself thinking, "Oh, Nick that was a stupid move." The author kept my interest to see who was going to win the struggle for power, both romantically and professionally that was occurring between Lyn and Nic. All the time, rooting for them to give into the passion that was building between them as they 'battled' one another. I enjoy love stories, but more than romance stories, I enjoy romantic stories that have adventure, mystery, and suspense throughout as well. This story did not disappoint me in that it had elements of all the fore-mentioned aspects that I enjoy about any story as a whole. This author is talented, smart, and creative as she penned out the story. I loved seeing the land in my mind as she described the scenery. I look forward to reading more from Jacqueline.
  • Devils Windpipe on Aug. 15, 2014

A bestselling author, three bodyguards, a retired hostage negotiator, a psychic, and a private investigator. I was immediately immersed in this story and did not want to put it down. The characters are engaging and the plot thick with action. This is the second of Ron Knight's books I've read and I am enjoying his writing style. If you like paranormal thrillers, you will love this book. I look forward to reading more of Ron Knight's novels.
  • Next Move, You're Dead - Book 1 of the Next Move, You're Dead Trilogy on Sep. 02, 2014

I thoroughly enjoyed this book from start to finish. It had me on the edge of my seat, biting my nails as I screamed warnings at the characters. The author spun a tale of mystery and suspense which was nothing less than a memorable thriller. When I thought I had the mystery figured out, the author managed to throw me off with another unexpected turn of events! If you are looking for a story that is full of intrigue, mystery, murder, and an edge of your seat thriller, then you will want to get this book series. This was book one and it left me reeling and anxious to read the other books in the trilogy. The author knows how to write a story to keep the reader involved and entertained!
