Seth and Ava Mysteries

“I don’t care if you kill to get the money; you’re going to pay your taxes on this land,” tax agent, Paul Bradley said in 1913, only moments before his death. A hundred years later, Seth O’Malley’s old friend passes him a cold case - 4 unrelated murders in almost every medium sized city across the US. When murder-for-hire turns personal, Seth and Ava must find the tax assassin before he kills Ava.

Forty years after he stumbles upon the horrific mutilation of a team of U.S. Rangers in Vietnam, Seth O’Malley wanders into a cat-and-mouse game with a mutilating psychopath. After murdering and mutilating some of the best detectives in the country, the psychopath is looking to mutilate the big prize—Seth O’Malley.

Friendly Fire begins with a phone call in the middle of the night. Seth’s father figure and personal Lucifer is acting crazy. A day later, Seth learns that his mother wants him to find something that his biological father left at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital. Standing in the hospital lobby, Seth is drawn into a diabolical mystery involving Chernobyl, Russian marksmen, and his fathers.

The Cigarette Killer was never happier than when he was talking about torturing and murdering people. He flamboyantly bragged his way through two books and numerous televisions programs. So, why did he suddenly appeal his conviction? A cursory DNA test seems to prove that Seth O'Malley and Mitch Delgado framed this poor disabled man. Seth and Ava are forced to set things right.

While Seth O'Malley is healing from a gun shot wound, Ava and her team is awarded a grant to look into cold cases in rural areas of Colorado. No sooner than the grant is awarded, when Seth receives a request to look into the case of a young woman buried in Kiowa County. Every step Ava takes to uncover who killed this poor young woman, the closer she gets to her own dark family history.

Ava and her lab have received a grant to solve ten cold cases in rural Colorado using modern forensics techniques. The director of the CBI was irritated by the irregularities of their last case (see "Little Girl Blue"). He assigns Ava and her team the coldest of cold cases -- an unpopular Senator was killed by RPG shot under his limousine after he left Aspen, Colorado.

Ava and her team head out to the Pawnee National Grasslands to find the killer of Gina Young Raven. Almost immediately, the case blows up with the discover of multiple remains buried over decades. During their investigation, Ava and her team discover hundreds of unprocessed rape kits from local Native American peoples. Ava must pull in every resource and use every contact to solve this case.

So when “The Evil Wizard,” Ava’s nickname for her boss, asks Ava and her team to identify the owner of two bone segments of an index finger, they should have expected danger and difficulties. Two small bones grew into an entire bone field in the near center of the Colorado Rockies. Every set of remains was missing the ends their index fingers.

After all Ava and her forensic science lab team had been through, and all of the cases they had resolved, Ava had hoped that they wouldn't be asked to do anymore of these difficult and nearly deadly cold cases from rural Colorado. But on Ava's first day back from medical leave, her boss, "The Evil Wizard," reminded her that she'd signed a contract for 10 rural cases, not 10 bodies.

Forensic scientist Ava O’Malley is in the middle of a criminal trial when a mysterious box arrives from Center, CO. Inside the box are the boney remains of 3 young children. Ava and her team must throw their usual controlled process to the wind to track down who these bones belong to. Ava's investigation leads her to encounter an ancient evil creature known only in Indigenous myth.
