Interview with Clint Adams

Published 2024-04-11.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Word of mouth, to be sure. When launching a book, giving out a copy to friends can work wonders.
Describe your desk
A view of somewhere/anywhere beyond the computer screen is crucial. Breaks tedium.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I was born in Oakland, California, lived there for a few years, then Los Angeles...and a million places in adulthood.
When did you first start writing?
Well into adulthood. At 34 or 35 years old.
What's the story behind your latest book?
It's non-fiction, but there's still a story...one that will hopefully show retirees their worth and foster hope for a successful future.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I was rejected by ALL traditional publishers. No other choice. I wouldn't have it any other way.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Yes, Smashwords was instrumental in the distribution of my first ebook. Their promos also aided sales.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
As a senior, having something to do (daily).
What do your fans mean to you?
I don't know if I have any. I am the fan of anyone who's able to see value in the words I share, especially if they (the words) are able to help them in any way.
What are you working on next?
Marketing the hell out of my current book, LIVE & LEARN: A Retiree's Guide to Keep Going. It's going to take many more months and many more $$$.
Who are your favorite authors?
Alice Walker. Anyone who's not fancy and makes me laugh. I love people (who write or not) who are "what you see is what you get." #authentic
