Interview with Geoff Woad

What is that bizarre helmet on the cover of Immortal's Clutch?
That's a photograph of a bangle that I designed and made myself, from brass. It's too large for me to wear, I never intended on making it for myself, it's just a bangle I made for the sake of making it. I really love brass and since archaeologists have given up now on distinguishing brass and bronze (putting them together under the term 'copper alloys') I feel it is somewhat representative of the bronze themes running through the work.
What is the significance of the title "Immortal's Clutch"?
The title has a double meaning. It refers to the compulsion to hang on to possessions, position, life itself, even when such may be no longer a source of anything positive. It also refers to the new nest of freshly established vampires, barely hatched.
Where did this idea come from?
A group of writing forum people were discussing vampire vs. vampire ideas, with the original thought being: Certain vampires, tired of being overshadowed by 'celebrity' vampires had decided to band together and assassinate Dracula. It was to be a joint venture, but ultimately only one writer committed to the attempt. The original ideas mutated, and ended up more of a "Seven against Thebes" than a "Kill Dracula".
Who is Geoff Woad?
A casualty of the '70s lifestyle, Geoff was at one time a promising shot-putter who succumbed to the temptation of steroids. Nowadays I only break the emergency glass and bring Geoff out if an assignment calls for his special talents; when not engaged in this fashion, Geoff continues to waste away in convalescence.

Alright, really, Geoff is as schlock as the stuff he writes, and every bit as real.
What of these gods of Canaan?
These guys were real and further, many of them make appearances in the Holy Bible itself (OT of course). Why is the first commandment top of the list? It turns out that Yahweh had a lot of competition, that's why. If you like the brutality of Immortal's Clutch, check out the book of Joshua, number six in the OT - these lot get the stuffing knocked out of them.

An ancient house of vampires becomes aware of a new, up and coming house. Established traditions are being cast aside by this new generation, further, they fail to conceal their true natures. The ancients have offered tutelage but the offer has been flouted. The violent ancients turn to the course of action they understand best.
