Interview with Harrison Davies

Published 2018-06-10.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I'm pretty much of a try anything kind of guy. I do enjoy playing games on the console or PC, a touch of cross-stitch which is surprisingly very relaxing. Beyond that, I dabble in landscape photography, filmmaking and reading.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Aside from Smashwords, word of mouth. I always review, it really helps the author.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I do. I was twelve and it was entitled S.E.A.R.Ch. It was ahead of its time and has since been updated to more modern language and set in America as opposed to the UK. There is a version set in the UK, though not released.
What is your writing process?
I start with the cover. I scour the internet for images that inspire me. I then commission an image or purchase the image and tweak till I'm happy, usually adding all text. Usually, I'm inspired to find a title at this point and those two things become my basis for a story. I then begin fleshing out a simple outline, usually bullet points of events. I then put pen to paper (I used to) and begin writing, and see where it takes me. My muse is amazing and directs me to some amazing storylines, of which I have a dozen or so left to write.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Those have to be Enid Blyton's Famous Five or the Hardy Boys. They were tales of morally upstanding individuals who spent their time adventuring or solving crimes. I may not have followed suit, but I believe they influenced my moral standing to this day.
How do you approach cover design?
I do most of it myself, usually scouring the internet for a suitable image I can purchase or inspire an artist to create one for me. I then do all my own text etc. Here are two links to that process on Youtube.
