Interview with James C Landyn

Published 2023-02-01.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My wife, my kid, and writing, in that order
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Spending time with my wife and kid, watching series and movies and playing games. All for the stories in them.
What are you working on next?
The next book in The Infinite Growth saga
Describe your desk
2 words: organized mess
When did you first start writing?
Must have been around age 10
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I do remember but only the broad lines, nothing specific. I also remember telling it to the people around me. I wrote it down on a few pages (I think I was around 10), but sadly I can't find any of the pages anymore.
What is your writing process?
Depends on the moment. For example, when writing The Infinite Growth, I started with a roadmap, where I contents of each chapter in a word document. The roadmap was written in a matter of weeks, I believe. When writing the actual book(s) I write as much as I can in as short an amount of time as possible so everything is still fresh. Next I read it and start adding and deleting what needs to and repeat until I'm pretty much done rereading it, then I start correcting for grammar and the like.
(Seems long now that I'm writing it like this, but I'm kind of a perfectionist, which isn't great when writing... And I probably still missed things too)
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
If I'm honest, the only 'stories' I really read comes from history books. I like history. But I haven't really read any fantasy books. I want to, but I can't bring myself to do it.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Amazon Kindle
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in a standalone house with a pretty big garden and a forest anywhere I looked. It's easy to use your imagination in a place like this.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Getting the stories on whiteness, and reading it again at a later time. Since I found Smashwords, you can add having other people read them.
