  Within the romance genre, the latitude for plot is narrow. This novel appears to be an attempt to wed the classic 1940s PI mystery with TV's modern day "Castle" (notice the "Heat" title). The concept sweats cliche. An audience desirous of erotic scenes may be satisfied while the prose lacks gripping literary characterization and/or plot twists. Sneaky, recurrent info dumps create no empathy for either main character, both flawed FBI agents. Was shocked by the lack of continuity in the first scene when both are said to be sitting in a bar booth which is then followed by one talking of following the other. The entire staging is nonsensical. The rating is measured both by the concept and its execution.
  
• A Wish for Their Woman (Wiccan-Were-Bear Book Thirteen) on Feb. 22, 2023
  
  Timeless tale set in a world of fantasy. Two brothers, Tek and Sky, and their fated mate, Kaya. Laced with graphic sexual content, it's an anguished tale with a happy ending one is left to believe might not be so given the heroine's cultural choices. A voyeurist read. An everflowing use of the passive voice in the narrative downgraded the overall rating.

  Time travel through a well-used portal,after a start with too much slow "telling," builds into a gratifying, twisting, fantasy tale. Abundant drama by well-crafted characters makes this a book worthy of recommendation. Five stars.

  The eternal contradictory cycles of life with birth, death, pain, pleasure, loss, and love mixed in with reality and fantasy come to life in Irish mythology. Fairies and demons walk hand-in-hand with mortals and anything can happen. Lucky's Leprechaun leaves behind the frightening to accent the glories the "wee people" add to everyday life. Yes, the storyline is often repeated, but it always remains entertaining. In this story, could one wish for more insightful depth and and less narrative? Yes. However, this is a short story, not a novel, although it could be. For a reader to be critical (and there is nothing like this in the story) is like a patient grumbling about a healing scar after the doctor removes a life-taking cancerous growth. Don't be that person. As you read, lose yourself in what might be germane and personal to you. It''s not a fault to consider yourself lucky. That's the magic of storytelling and in Lucky's Leprechaun there is an abundance of magic.
